Ederer, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of PaR Systems, Inc. This business provides customers with custom and specialty cranes, bridge cranes, crane equipment, and heavy material handling equipment drawing on a rich and unique history of accomplishments in the industries which that we serve.
Bridge Cranes
Ederer has specialized in crane equipment, especially bridge cranes, since around 1910. In the past 20 years we have become known as the crane industry's principal supplier of custom-engineered bridge cranes, with deliveries of specialized crane equipment throughout the United States and around the world.
Gantry Cranes
Ederer overhead gantry cranes are a variant of the bridge crane design, with legs. However, gantry cranes have their own characteristics and a similarly wide range of applications, principally outdoors. Ederer has delivered gantry cranes of capacity as high as 700 tons, and spans ranging up to 320 feet. In early 2007 Ederer will set a new capacity delivery record with supply of a 5100 ton capacity gantry crane for use at a Dam on a River. At 140 foot span and 100 foot clear height, this gantry weighs approximately 2000 tons, and will therefore be the heaviest bridge crane structure ever supplied by Ederer.
The most impressive spans (especially considering their speeds) are Ederer's 25 to 45 ton capacity yarding gantry cranes, which are in use handling logs, steel and containers in North America and internationally. Spans for these installations range from 130 to 200 feet, and the cranes' cantilevers allow coverage of yard widths over 300 feet. These long-span cranes are also among our fastest, with travel speeds of 325 FPM to 600 FPM. One of our 200 foot span machines with a 320 foot long girder weighs over 1,000,000 pounds and travels at 600 FPM using 480 HP.
Polar Cranes
A polar crane operates on a circular runway in a round building, normally without a center bearing or guides other than the circular runway rail. Ederer has a long history of success with polar cranes, achieving smooth running and circular tracking without the need for guide rollers or other auxiliary equipment.
Ederer has installations of polar bridge cranes in both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, in capacities that range from 4 tons to 400 tons, and with construction capacities as high as 750 tons. Most of our polar crane installations also provide enhanced safety for the hoisting equipment through use of Ederer's patented X-SAM® (eXtra Safety And Monitoring) hoist safety system.
Ederer has extended this experience with polar cranes, and with revolving boom cranes, to design of special rotating machinery, such as revolving restaurants, rotating steel walls, and our "Torus" circular runway crane design. In each instance our crane-related experience has been an asset towards success in these and other special applications.
Revolver Cranes
A revolver crane is a boom-equipped machine that can be mounted on a raised gantry, on a barge or on a pedestal. Ederer has over 400 installations of our Washington -brand revolver cranes (formerly Washington Iron Works) around the world in service in shipyards, ports, marine construction, log handling and other industries. Ederer has maintained and extended that established expertise, supplying revolver cranes up to 550 tons capacity, gantry-mounted shipyard cranes, and related equipment such as stiffleg derricks, gin poles and other specialty rigging hardware.
Ederer regularly supplies parts, service and modernization for a large number of Washington revolver cranes built in the 1940s that are still in daily service. Recent major projects include motor control replacement, diesel and torque converter retrofit, operator's cab upgrades, and supply of pneumatic brake/clutch retrofit "kits".
Special Cranes
Although all of Ederer's recent crane deliveries would be considered custom-engineered for an unusual application, some projects require designs that would be considered truly "special". When a normal crane arrangement doesn't fit the customer's need, Ederer can draw from a wide range of prior experience with unusual constructions to provide a practical alternative.
In some cases these special machines might not be recognized as cranes, even by others in the industry. When your application requires a very long lift, a high capacity for the building, high speed, the need to reach into the corners of a structure, or any feature that's not available "from the catalog", Ederer can help. In fact, it's common for our competitors to refer customers to Ederer when a standard, pre-engineered crane does not fit their requirements.
Transporter Cranes
In addition to designing and supplying cranes with hoists, Ederer has a long history of supplying equipment that simply moves heavy loads with limited lift capability. Often this equipment is equipped with steel wheels for running on steel rails, but we have also provided pneumatic tires, rubber and polyurethane wheels, track assemblies and rollers.
Capacities range from several tons for trolley carts (normally provided for radiation environments, high-temperature kiln cars) to thousands of tons, such as the travel machinery designed, manufactured, and installed by Ederer for the Seattle Mariners' Safeco Field retractable roof. Weighing 12,000 tons, the roof moves using 96 - 10HP electric motors using an automated, sequenced control system.
Ederer also has high-capacity AGV capability, with smooth-floor transporters supplied in capacities up to 140 tons.
